Hello, I'm going through my first experience with what seems to be rapidly progressing alopecia areata. I have two spots, both started in March/April of this year as about the size of a five euro cent piece. One now covers much of the crown of one side of my head. It is still a ways from the front of my hairline, but it is growing quickly. Sometimes it looks much bigger to me than it is, but it is definitely on the move. Oddly both of the spots are re-growing a thin white hair inside while the borders are still shedding (the slightest tug on the hairs at the fringes and they just come right out). I'm going to the Dermatologist next week, and Harry, I read your story and have the same apprehensions about the therapies. It's all been a rather quick adjustment and on some days I pledge to charge confidently into life as if nothing has changed and on others I get the fear, cower, and reach for the hat.
